Inspire Passion

Natural Sciences

With a growing demand for scientists that are highly qualified in multiple disciplines, and global challenges urgently needing skilled individuals who can communicate effectively across the disciplines to solve these problems, the Society for Natural Sciences is keen to support the development of this next generation of scientists.

We work with students and teachers at all levels to promote a strength in working at the interface between disciplines, enabling a passion for the sciences to evolve and for students to find their passion. We hope to help teachers of all ages support student development and we do this in several ways – but we are keen to hear from you if you have further ideas which align to our overarching objectives.

Pedagogic Research Group

The Society for Natural Sciences Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Group hosts monthly lunchtime online seminars to support dissemination and discussion of best practice in an interdisciplinary science education. These informal webinars hosted via Advance HE have an introductory presentation from a member of the network followed by question and answers/discussion.

Subjects scheduled so far include: assessments, interdisciplinary project work and evaluation of student skills. The seminars take place online 13.00-14.00 on the final Thursday of each month, and are open and free to attend (for both members of the Society and non-members).

Channel Talent Seminar Series

Our Channel Talent programme presents a range of seminars to schools and individuals. Being on-line we have been able to reach far and wide, and we are keen to continue supporting a growing interest in the Natural Sciences. You can come along to these seminars and join in the live Q&A afterwards, or enjoy our recordings here.

Outreach Activities

As a Society we have members across the UK who attend various outreach activities, either on behalf of their own institutes or specifically for the Society for Natural Sciences. These events include HE fairs to local school visits, seminars to whole day workshops. If you are a teacher and would like to know more about what we do, and how we can support you, please get in touch. We have been able to help with work placements during this last year, so contact us to be part of this community.

If you are a student who has a real passion for a particular topic, please talk to your teachers and put them in touch with us so that we can help!
