Having established the accreditation route in 2021, the Society for Natural Sciences accreditation committee carried out a programme of visits, and are delighted to announce the first group of institutions to receive the Society accreditation. An array of 3, 4 and 5 year programmes have achieved the high standards set out in the Society’s accreditation framework, and have received the badge of recognition for their outstanding quality and rigor in delivering interdisciplinary science educational experiences.
Programmes at the following institutions have achieved accreditation by the Society for Natural Sciences:
- University of Bath
- University of Birmingham
- University of Exeter
- Keele University
- University of Leeds
- University of Leicester
- Loughborough University
- University of Nottingham
- The Open University
- University College London
- University of York
- Lancaster University
These institutions have been acknowledged for providing students with exceptional learning opportunities across the disciplines, promoting the need, and supporting personal development of students working in highly dynamic and interdisciplinary areas across the Natural Sciences. The skills development opportunities provided will prepare the next generation of scientists to tackle global challenges, with many career pathways possible for students engaging in these courses.
Professor Nicky King, Chair of the Society for Natural Sciences says,
“We are proud to have implemented this first of its kind interdisciplinary accreditation scheme, which is already improving the way interdisciplinary science is taught in the UK. We’re delighted for all those successful institutions and hope this is just the start of a rewarding partnership with them, and others who apply in the future, to continue to raise both standards and opportunities for studying interdisciplinary science in the UK.”
